Trinity College, one of the colleges of
Cambridge University, was founded by King Henry VIII in 1546 by merging several old colleges. In memory of this, in the niche of the gate of the main entrance to the college is a statue of Henry VIII. Most of the main college buildings were built in the 16th and 17th centuries. Many members of the British royal family were students of Trinity College, several dozen of its graduates and teachers became Nobel laureates. The college library is the largest in the university, with 300,000 books. Trinity College Chapel, built in the 16th century, has a 17th-century organ and a student choir performs here.
