George's Square is Glasgow's central square, named after King George III. Its main dominant is the building of the City Council (1888) with a high tower in the middle. There are 12 monuments to famous Scots on the square, including: poet Robert Barnes, inventor James Watt, a monument-column to Sir Walter Scott in the center of the square, equestrian statues of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. Of the interesting buildings located on the square, one can note the House of Trade and the Old Post Office, built in 1876-77, the Millennium Hotel built in 1807.
The square often hosts public meetings, political rallies, New Year holidays, and concerts. Near the square is the railway station Queen Street Station.
