Glasgow Cathedral
Glasgow Cathedral: St Mungo, High Kirk of Glasgow
Great britain, Glasgow
Glasgow Cathedral is a monument of Scottish Gothic architecture, built at the beginning of the 12th century, named after the patron saint of the city and all of Scotland, St. Mungo, who was buried in the lower church of the cathedral. Here is the residence of the Archbishops of Glasgow. The cathedral is notable for its wooden roof with statues, mosaic windows with various scenes, and a 14th-century altar barrier.
Next to the cathedral is the Museum of Religious Life and Art of Saint Mungo, dedicated to the major religions of the world. The museum houses a painting by Salvador Dali "Christ of St. John of the Cross".
On a hill to the west of the cathedral, there is an old city cemetery, connected to the cathedral by a bridge. On the territory of this necropolis there are many ancient gravestones and crypts.
