Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum
Great britain, Glasgow
The Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum is located in a park on the banks of the Kelvin River. The Spanish Baroque red sandstone building was built for the International Art Exhibition from 1892 to 1901. The basis of the exposition was the collection of philanthropist Archibald MacLellan, who donated 400 most interesting paintings to the city.
The modern exposition consists of works by famous masters, including Rembrandt, Rubens, Degas, Monet, Dali, Picasso, Van Gogh, Rossetti, Raeburn and many others. There is also a collection of prehistoric animal skeletons, ancient Egyptian art, antique furniture, a collection of armor and weapons, a collection of minerals and utensils.
After a three-year reconstruction, which ended in 2006, the museum was replenished with interactive expositions designed for adults and children. 8000 objects can be observed on museum displays.
