Princes Street stretches over a mile and a half in the city center near Edinburgh Castle. It is the main shopping street of the city, there are a large number of shops, supermarkets and boutiques. Princes Street is built up only on the north side, while on the south there are picturesque alleys and sidewalks. South of the street's east end are Princes Street Gardens, where city events are held.
