Jewelery Quarter
Jewelery Quarter
Great britain, Birmingham
Birmingham's Jewelery Quarter recently employed 30,000 people, producing 40% of Britain's jewellery. In connection with the general trend of the country's economic development, it was decided to turn the historic quarter into a tourist area, open fashionable shops here that are not related to the jewelry business, art galleries, and bridal salons. At the same time, many small workshops and retail outlets selling high-quality jewelry have remained here, and the largest Jewelery School in Europe is operating. St. Paul's Square is home to the eponymous cathedral, many restored historic buildings, and a clock-shaped memorial commemorating statesman Arthur Neville Chamberlain.
To learn more about the history of the area, you should visit the Museum of the Jewelery Quarter, which is located on Vice Street in the building of a former jewelry factory closed in 1981. In the museum you can see the preserved equipment and tools, get acquainted with the process of creating jewelry.
