In 1889-1890. in the local hospital at the monastery of Saint-Paul-de-Musol, in the psychiatric department, Vincent van Gogh was treated. He was enrolled at his own request, after a story with a cut off ear and treatment in an Arles clinic. The chief doctor of the Saint-Remy hospital allowed the artist to roam the area and it was here that his most fantastic masterpieces were born (about 150 works per year), including the famous Starry Night.
