This is the most famous landmark, around which the city grew. Now this is the southern side of the historical center, the entrance is from the western side. The palace was built at the end of the 13th century as a residence for King Jaime II of Mallorca, son of King Jaime I of Aragon and Valencia, who reconquered Moorish-occupied Mallorca. After the king's death, his kingdom was divided between his two sons. The elder received most of the inheritance, and the remaining territories, including Majorca and Rousillon, passed to the younger Jaime II, who ruled from Perpignan and Montpellier.→
