Place des Vosges

Place des Vosges
France, Paris
Place des Vosges is located in the Marais and is considered the oldest square in Paris. The square was built and settled in 1605–1612 by order of King Henry IV. Until 1799, it was called Royal, and got its current name in honor of the inhabitants of the Vosges region, who voluntarily began to pay contributions for the maintenance of the revolutionary army. On the square were the houses of many famous Frenchmen - Cardinal Richelieu, Victor Hugo, Theophile Gauthier and many others.

In order to see this square for the first time, we took the metro to Place de la Bastille. We looked at the column and the Bastille Opera building. We walked along the boulevard and for the first time they did not find it without a policeman. Place des Vosges (formerly Place Royale) is considered the oldest in Paris. It is a rectangle built up with buildings in the same style. The two buildings with higher roofs are called the pavilions of the King and Queen. Inside the triangle is a monument to Louis X!! ! , very simple fountains and lime trees.
