Place Saint-Michel

place Saint Michel
France, Paris
Place Saint-Michel is a Parisian square located in the Latin Quarter, designed in the middle of the 19th century by the French architect Gabriel David. It is famous for its unusual fountain 26 meters high: it combines Corinthian columns carved from red Languedoc marble, as well as elements of green marble rock, complemented by blue and yellow stones. Also on the square are many cafes and shops lovingly described by Hemingway.

From this square begins the famous Latin Quarter. The center of the square is decorated with the Daviu fountain (St. Michael kills the dragon). In 1944, violent clashes between students and the Nazis took place on this square. There is a metro station on the square. If you go for a walk in the Luxembourg Gardens, you can include it in your itinerary.
