Near Paris is this large park where you can relax. It was founded in the 16th century. near the castle of Saint-Cloud, destroyed by artillery during the Franco-Prussian war of 1870. Its territory is distinguished by a great variety of relief and the excellent work of landscape designers, who favorably emphasized the natural beauty of nature with their creativity. On an area of ​ ​.460 hectares, there is a regular garden designed by A. Le Nô tre, the English Trocadero park and the rose garden of Marie Antoinette. The alleys are planted with yews, thujas and orange trees. Flowers, trees and shrubs are especially diverse on the Upper Terrace, where you can find dogwood, hydrangea, jasmine, barberry and magnolia. The English part of the Trocadero is dominated by coniferous trees, but also beech, plane trees and maples grow.
At the top of the hill there is an observation deck with a balustrade that offers a wonderful view of Paris. I wish this park got a little attention, as most of it needs better maintenance.
One of the most popular attractions in Saint-Cloud Park is the Grand Cascade. Its upper part is reminiscent of a gigantic staircase with streams of water flowing down it. It was built in 1664-1665 according to the design of A. Lenotre. At the top of the cascade, there is a sculptural composition symbolizing the confluence of the Marne and Seine rivers. The lower part of the cascade with the Great Pool and the canal was created in 1668-1669 by the engineer A. Mansard. All this hydraulic structure consists of 24 fountains. In autumn, one of the most spectacular fire shows and fireworks festivals in France and Europe is held near the Grand Cascade. Unfortunately, the cascade itself was no longer functioning and was in an emergency condition.
Now work has begun on its restoration, so there is hope to see its splendor in the future.
