The Matisse Museum is dedicated to the life and work of the outstanding French artist Henri Matisse. The museum is located in an exquisite 17th-century mansion. - at Villa Aren - and this is no coincidence, because the artist spent his summers there for almost 40 years. The museum was opened in 1963 and its 18 rooms display famous and little-known paintings, drawings, engravings, sculptures, unusual collages, ceramics and stained glass windows of Matisse, as well as photographs, documents and personal belongings of the artist. A tour of the museum's exposition allows you to trace the formation of Matisse as an outstanding artist and see his experiments with color, form and different techniques, which led to the formation of a unique and recognizable manner of this master.
