Lemon Festival

Fete du Citron, Menton Lemon Festival
France, Menton
The Lemon Festival takes place annually on the French Riviera, in late February - early March and lasts just over two weeks. The festival was conceived as a preparation for the richest harvest season in Menton. Each year the Lemon Festival has a different theme. In 2014, the theme of the festival was Jules Verne's 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, and in 2015, the theme will be China. During the holiday, Menton is decorated with the most incredible figures of lemons and oranges. Along the coast is a parade of corteges of golden fruit adorned with citrus fruits and flowers. The festival ends with a parade of fireworks.

Festival events take place at different geolocations, one of which is the Promenade du Soleil (La Promenade du Soleil). The parade of chariots decorated with citrus structures takes place only on Sundays. The start of the procession called "Corci des fruits d'or" at 14-30. Entrance ticket (standing place) 10 euros. All the details about the festival can be found at http://www. fete du citron. com It must be said that the action itself begins earlier than the agreed time, when the main decorated wagons are just being pulled up.

The festival events take place at different geolocations, one of which is the Palace of Europe (Palais de l’Europe). Free admission. Address: Avenue Boyer, 8. All the details about the festival on the website http://www. fete du citron. com The Palace hosts an exhibition of flowers and the "Lemon Salon", which widely presents local products based on citrus fruits: honey, jams, liqueurs, jellies. I enjoy tasting everything that is given to try. A feast for the eyes and stomach! And what a delicious lemonade! Mmmmmmm.

The history of the Lemon Festival (Fete du Citron) dates back to 1929, when the first exhibition of flowers and citrus fruits was organized in the gardens of the Riviera Hotel. This exhibition was very successful, and the next year the event moved to the streets, where carts appeared decorated with oranges and lemons. Why citrus? Manton is the only city in Europe where lemon trees bloom and bear fruit all year round. Three harvests of lemons are harvested, the largest harvest is in March-April.
