The monument by Gaston Castel and Antoine Sartorio was erected at the beginning of the 20th century in memory of all those who died in the First World War. The monument was specially placed on a ledge, overlooking the sea, so that it could be clearly seen from afar. On a pedestal in the center of the arch stands a bronze figure of the goddess of Victory, raising her hands to the sky.
