Marseille City Hall

Hotel de ville de Marseille, Mairie de Marseille
France, Marseille
The City Hall of Marseille, the building of the city administration, is located in Old Port of Marseille. It was built in the Baroque style in 1653. The building is made of pink stone. Between the two porticos, decorated with carvings and ornaments, there is a balcony decorated with columns and pilasters with acanthus leaves. The town hall has one feature: it does not have a staircase leading to the second floor. And you can get there through the building behind the city hall, connected to it by a bridge.

The town hall was built at the end of the 17th century by order of King Louis in the then fashionable baroque style. This building has an interesting feature - the floors do not communicate with each other, the entrance to the second floor is only through the neighboring building, along the covered bridge. This is due to the fact that the ground floor once housed shopping malls, and in order not to interfere with the work of the city authorities, it was decided to make a separate entrance for them.
