The cathedral is part of the pilgrimage route of St. James to the Spanish city of Santiago de Compostela and was consecrated by Pope Urban II in 1096. From the original church, built in the Romanesque style, only the remains of the nave wall have survived. The Royal Gate dates from the 13th century, and the rest of the cathedral was built mainly in the 14th and 15th centuries. The Cathedral of St. Andrew the Apostle is decorated with tall Gothic spiers that have towered over the city for almost a thousand years.→
