Clock Square (Place de l'Horloge) has always been the center of city life. At one time there was a Roman forum, then there was a market, and then a place for public executions. Today it is the square where all the main social events of Avignon take place and where you can relax in one of the many cafes. The two main buildings on the square are the City Hall, rebuilt in the 19th century and retaining only the Gothic tower from the old building. It was this Jacquemart tower with an old clock that gave the name to the whole square.→
