A physician by training, Amé dé e Pichot became famous mainly as a journalist, translator of English literature and a bibliophile. The fountain was built by his son and is dedicated to the friendship between Amé dé e Pichot and the painter Paul Balze. The fountain was designed by Joseph Flandrin. To implement the project, a building was purchased and radically rebuilt, facing the intersection of streets. The end of the rebuilt building became the basis for the fountain. In the center was placed the work of Paul Balze, depicting the allegory of Poetry.
