The Amphitheater Romain is an ancient Roman arena dating back to the 1st century AD. e. The Colosseum of Arles is not as big as its Roman older brother, although it was built in the same era - during the reign of the Flavian dynasty. Its dimensions allowed it to accommodate 25 thousand people. The amphitheater remained a functioning gladiatorial arena until the last centuries of the Roman Empire. After the fall of the Roman Empire, during the Middle Ages, the Arena was used as a fortification covering about 200 houses and two churches.
