Lutheran Church Rovaniemi
Lutheran Church, Lutheran Parish in Rovaniemi
Finland, Rovaniemi
The Lutheran Church in Rovaniemi was built in 1950 by the architect Bertel Liijekvist. The previous church building was destroyed during the war, in 1944.
On the territory of the churchyard there is a memorial to the Finnish soldiers who died during the Second World War. Opposite is a monument to the Finnish independence fighters who fell in 1918. The interior of the church is decorated with a fourteen-meter altar fresco “The Source of Life”, painted by Lennart Segerstrohl. The church can simultaneously accommodate up to 1000 parishioners. In 1987, an organ with 4,000 pipes, 45 registers, three manuals and a pedal, manufactured at a factory in Denmark, was purchased and consecrated. On the roof of the church there is a spire with a cross, whose total height reaches 54 meters.
