Tapiola Garden City
Tapiola
Finland, Helsinki
The garden city of Tapiola is located on the shores of the Gulf of Finland and is a residential area of Espoo, a satellite city of Helsinki. Tapiola was designed and built in the 1960s in such a way as to achieve maximum harmony between residential buildings and the surrounding nature. Here, on the territory of 230 hectares, residential buildings seem to be part of a beautiful forest area with tall dense trees. The compositional center of the district is the Central Pool, the space near which is decorated with sculptures, monuments, original buildings, including the Central Tower.
Tapiola is the cultural center of Espoo. Here are located the Espoo Cultural Center, the city theatre, the exhibition center "Vege" with its five museums, the cinema "Kino Tapiola". It is on the territory of the district that the April Jazz festival, the Espoo Cine film festival, and the Vocal Espoo choir singing festival are held. For lovers of outdoor activities in Tapiola, the Jaapuutarha skating rink is open in winter.
