The Finlandia Palace, which looks like a tower with a sloping roof, is located in a park near the shore of Töolönlahti Bay. Here in 1975 the heads of 35 countries signed the Helsinki Treaty on Cooperation and Security in Europe.
The palace, made of granite and finished with white marble, impresses with its size, which, according to the architect, was supposed to provide excellent acoustics. During the construction, environmentally friendly materials were used. The palace is equipped with concert halls, rooms for exhibitions, a meeting room for 1,700 people and four smaller halls.
In front of the palace there is a monument to President Kekkonen, in the form of four raised hands. The palace restaurant consists of three halls separated by movable walls and can accommodate 380 people when they open.
