Church of Temppeliaukio

Temppeliaukion kirkko, Tempelplats
Finland, Helsinki
Temppeliaukio Church is a Lutheran parish church in Töölö, one of the central districts of Helsinki. The church was designed and built by the architect brothers Timo and Tuomo Suomalainen. Consecrated in 1969.

Due to its squat shape and impenetrable stone structure, the church is sometimes referred to as the anti-devil defense bunker. On June 29, 2006, the first metal mass in Finland was held here, when church chants were sung to the accompaniment of hard rock.

I heard that this "tourist site" is usually included in the sightseeing tour program. But, since we are traveling around Helsinki on our own, we did not run to the Church in the rock - Temppeliaukio - from the first time. The building of the church did not make a big impression on me: from the outside it looks like a huge crypt. Inside, everything looks more interesting: raw stone walls, natural light falling through a glass dome ...But in general - nothing special. Well, the church...So if for some reason you don't get here, you shouldn't be very upset.
