The Rambla de la Libertat

Rambla de la Llibertat
Spain, Girona
The Rambla de la Libertat is the city's main street on the banks of the Onyar River. Once there was a city wall along the street, protecting the city from the side of the river, but in 1809 it was partially destroyed by Napoleon's troops. Only the northern and eastern sections of the fortification have survived. Now the best restaurants and fashion boutiques are located here, and on weekends there is a flower fair on the Rambla de la Libertat.

Every self-respecting city of Catalonia has its own Rambla : ) Girona is no exception. Here, the Rambla is also the main tourist street of the city, on which there are numerous shops, cafes and restaurants. The street acquired its appearance in the 19th century during the restoration of the embankment of the Onyar River. Pay attention to the characteristic feature of the Girona Rambla - arched arcades with low ceilings. And be sure to try the local ice cream - it's wonderful here!
