Cathedral of Valencia

Catedral de Valencia, Valencia Cathedral, Metropolitan Cathedral–Basilica of the Assumption of Our Lady of Valencia
Spain, Valencia
The foundation stone of the Valencia Cathedral was laid in 1262, and the construction itself continued with varying success until the 15th century. The cathedral is made in the early Gothic style and is one of the most significant masterpieces representing this architectural trend. Later, the Cathedral was rebuilt, which explains the fact that the main entrance to the temple is made in the Baroque and Neoclassical styles.

A lantern tower with eight-pointed windows crowns the building, and the facades are decorated with numerous biblical sculptures. Of particular interest to visitors is a sculptural group depicting the Virgin Mary surrounded by a retinue of angels. Next to the cathedral rises the world-famous El Micalet Bell Tower, which offers breathtaking views of the entire city.
The cathedral is located in the very center of Valencia, on Plaza de la Reina and is not only a landmark of the city, but also the recognized center of Christian Valencia. Residents of Valencia are sure that the Holy Grail exhibited in the chapel of the Cathedral, which received the recognition of the Pope himself, is the very legendary cup from which, according to the Bible, the Savior himself communed during the Last Supper on the eve of the trial and execution.

The Cathedral of Valencia is also notable for the centuries-old tradition of holding meetings of the so-called "Water Tribunal", which deals with controversial issues to resolve irrigation issues in the area. Meetings are held at noon sharp every Thursday next to the Portal of the Apostles. The meeting is held exclusively in the Valencian dialect, decisions are read orally and are not subject to further revision.

I am a big lover of shops, usually on vacation the first thing I run there. The most funny, but I can not live without it! This time I had a serious goal - I had to pick up a festive bow for my best friend's wedding. This is a responsible matter, so I decided to ask the pros for help. She took me to the best shops, both branded and local magicians. The image that I managed to pick up turned out great! I'm waiting for the wedding

Cathedral of Saint Mary. The cathedral was built on the site of the former Roman temple of Diana, the goddess of fertility, flora and fauna. The temple, which belonged first to the Romans, and then to the Visigoths, was completely demolished by the Arabs. On the site of the temple, the Arabs erected a mosque. But with the arrival of the Spaniards, the Muslim shrine was also destroyed, and a cathedral was laid on its foundation in 1262. Construction continued until 1356. In subsequent centuries, the cathedral was completed and rebuilt, so entire epochs were mixed in its architecture.
