Spain, Tarragona
The Archaeological Museum of Tarragona has one of the richest collections of Roman era treasures in Spain. It occupies a beautiful building on the Royal Square, built in 1960 and connected to Pretoria. Above the wall, at the junction of the new building and Pretoria, there is a statue of Augusto Caesar (the work of the Catalan sculptor Joan Reboul).
Numerous collections are exhibited in the halls of the museum: fragments of local megalithic structures, Roman sarcophagi, friezes, column capitals, amphoras, incense vessels, glass vases, sculptures, mosaics, bronze and bone objects, ancient inscriptions, urns and other valuables of the Iberian, Hellenic , Roman and Visigothic origin. In total, the museum has about 25,000 exhibits. Of particular note is the monumental mosaic of Pineda with the image of fish, the sculptural busts of Trajan, Hadrian, Lucius Vero, Marcus Aurelius, the statues of Venus and Minerva, as well as the mosaic "Head of Medusa" and the hall dedicated to the excavations of Els Munts de Altafulla, with numerous amazing mosaics depicting muse, and statues of Anthony and Aesculapius.
