Umbrella Metropol

Metropol Parasol Complex, Metropol Parasol, Espacio Metropol Paraso, Metropolis Umbrella, Metropol Mushrooms
Spain, Seville
This largest wooden building in the world (according to the Guinness Book of Records) was opened in March 2011 in the center of Seville, near Encarnacion Square, and someone associates it with space alien objects or with colossally enlarged sculptural copies of a mushroom family. The author of the project was the German architect Jorgen Mayer.
At the underground level of the complex there is an archaeological museum "Antiquarium"; on the ground floor - a farmers' market, historically located on this site in the middle of the 19th century; on the second floor there are restaurants and public areas where concerts and sports matches, film and theater performances, fashion shows, exhibitions and other cultural events are held; and on the upper platform there are observation terraces with a panoramic view of the city.

The Metropol Parasol is located in Plaza de la Encarnació n. Once upon a time there was an unattractive area of Seville on this place and the authorities decided to ennoble it. During construction work on the square, houses and mosaics dating back to the Roman era were discovered. This historical find dictated the shape of the Metropol Umbrella, which now serves as a museum - a shelter for the found values. The complex began construction in 2006 and opened in April 2011 at a whopping $130 million.
