The Mercantile Exchange, located on Llotja Square, is one of the most significant monuments of the secular architecture of the Gothic style in Spain. The building was designed by Guillem Sagrera between 1420 and 1452 for the College of Commerce: the body responsible for regulating commerce and collecting trade tax. The building was also used to conclude contracts for the implementation of commercial transactions. During the period of trade recession, there was a warehouse here; during the war with Napoleon, the building turned into a factory for the production of guns. Later it housed the Museum of Fine Arts, then the Parliament of the Balearic Islands.
Currently, the building is used as an exhibition hall, and you can get into it on the days of the exhibitions.
