Puerta del Sol

Puerta del Sol is one of the two central squares of Madrid. It got its name thanks to the "Gate of the Sun" standing here, demolished in 1521. The modern Puerta del Sol is crescent shaped. It contains the Post Office, the government building of the Autonomous Region of Madrid, The Statue of the Bear and the Arbutus, and in its center stands the equestrian statue of Charles III.
