Valley of the Fallen - a memorial complex near Madrid, where more than 40 thousand soldiers of the Republican Spain and supporters of the rebel general Franco are buried. It was conceived as a Monument to all those who died in the Civil War, as a symbol of reconciliation and was built on the orders of Franco. It was erected by the forces of political prisoners for many years after the end of hostilities, many of them did not live to see the completion of construction. From afar, from passing highways, a giant 135-meter cross is visible on top of a hill, under which a basilica with the remains of the dictator himself is carved into the rock.→
