The powerful fortress wall in the city of Lugo is a perfectly preserved example of Roman fortification architecture. It was built in the 3rd century. to protect the ancient city of Lucus from barbarian tribes and invaders, therefore it still surrounds the historical center of the city. Its length is just over 2 km, and its width is 4–7 m. The wall is made of massive stones and additionally reinforced with 85 towers, many of which have survived to this day. There are 10 gates in the fortress wall - the main ones are the gates of Santiago and Carmen. Near the walls and on top of them, paths are laid, walking along which you can admire the beauty of the ancient part of the city of Lugo, with its cobbled streets, green alleys and ancient architecture.

The best preserved fortress wall in Europe is located in the North-West of Spain in the city of Lugo, the main city of the province of the same name in Galicia. The length of the wall is 2 kilometers; it was erected by the Romans in the 1st century. The height reaches 10 meters, the width reaches 6. On the top, you can bypass the old city covered by it around. Through the gates of Santiago, punched in the wall, you can get to the cathedral, the construction of which began in the distant 1129, from the same gate you can go upstairs.
