Temple of Mercy
Santuario de Misericordia, Temple of Misericordia
Spain, Costa Daurada
The Temple of Mercy is located at the exit of the city of Reus, on the Cambrils highway. It is built in the Renaissance style. The temple was built in honor of the Virgin Mary in 1602 in the very place where the Mother of God appeared to pastor Isabel Besora. Construction was completed in 1692.
The Temple of Mercy is notable for the fact that at the beginning of the 20th century, Gaudi was asked to reconstruct it, which would be the main creation of the architect in his native city. But for a number of reasons, Gaudi was unable to carry out the reconstruction, and the work was entrusted to Pere Caselles, also a well-known Art Nouveau architect in the city.
