An underground karst cave system located 1.5 km from the city of Nerja (45 km east of Malaga).

The entrance to it was discovered in 1959 by several young Spaniards who decided to see where the bats live. Accidentally getting into one of the caves, they saw not only stalagmites, but also human remains and pottery, which proved that people lived here in ancient times. In 1961, after research, the cave was declared a historical and artistic monument. It has been inhabited by humans since about 25,000 B.C. before 3000 BC Archaeologists have discovered here, in particular, the burial of a woman dating back to 7 thousand BC, primitive rock paintings of the Paleolithic era, traces of domestication of animals and the manufacture of ceramics and fabrics.
The total area of ​​the dungeon is about 35 thousand square meters. m, of which 9 thousand square meters are open for tourists. m., and the height difference is 70 meters. It has three entrances - two natural, and the third, arranged in 1960 for tourists. Approximately the caves of Nerja are divided into three groups: Lower galleries, open to tourists, where steps are arranged and electric lighting is provided; The Upper Galleries, opened in 1960, and the New Galleries, discovered in 1969.

The cave is open all year round every day, entrance is paid. Both short excursions and speleological tours lasting several hours are arranged here.
