Royal Baths of Calpe
Baños de la Reina, Queen's bath Calpe
Spain, Costa Blanca
It is assumed that this was a bathing structure where lintels were made to reduce or prevent wave movement. The water came from four different entrances, two located in the south and the other two in the west, thus each entrance provided a corresponding bath. These channels were arranged in such a way that the water in the baths was absolutely calm. However, another theory suggests that this design was a contraption for salting. This idea is based on the presence of mackerel, tuna and fresh water needed to clean the fish, as well as the proximity of salt flats. Whatever they originally were, they are worth seeing when visiting Calpe.
