Catedral de San Nicolás, San Nicolas Cathedral
Spain, Costa Blanca

The huge inner space of the church is crowned with a dome, the height of which reaches 45 meters. After the civil war of 1936-39. the cathedral has been restored. The façade is the work of the architect Juan de Herrera, who designed the famous monastery of Escorial, near Madrid. The cathedral has a beautiful gilded altar surrounded by openwork lattices, as well as altars in the quaint churriguera style - the Spanish baroque of the early 13th century. In the same century, the Chapel of the Holy Communion was erected. The relics of the Alicante Saint Felicita (XV century), Saint Roque and Saint Francis Xavier are kept in the church.
