Bullfighting arena Alicante
Plaza de Toros de Alicante
Spain, Costa Blanca
The bullfighting arena of Alicante is already the third city arena (the first two were wooden and were located on the squares of Ayuntamiento and Gabriel Miró). The current arena began to be built in 1847, it was inaugurated in June 1849. In 1888, the architect Gardiola Pico significantly expanded and rebuilt the arena. Above the main entrance was a sculpture in the form of a bull's head with natural horns, the work of José Samper. In addition to bullfights, various concerts and performances are held here, as well as matches of the tennis tournament for the Davis Cup.
