Museo de Bellas Artes de Bilbao, Bilbao Fine Arts Museum
Spain, Bilbao
The collection of the Museum of Fine Arts Bilbao was assembled under one roof in 1945 from two museum collections - the Museum of Fine Arts (1908) and the Museum of Modern Art (1924). Since 2001, the museum with 7,500 exhibits, including 1,500 paintings, 400 sculptures, has been located in the park in a new futuristic building with glass walls. The basis of the collection is the canvases of Spanish and Basque artists of the 17th-19th centuries, a significant collection of contemporary art of the 20th century. The most ancient exhibits of the museum are samples of religious wooden sculpture of the XII century, among them is the oldest Crucifix by an unknown Castilian sculptor. The museum is also known for its temporary exhibitions of world masterpieces.
