The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, designed by architect Frank Gehry on the banks of the Nervión River in 1997, is one of the
New York affiliates of the Solomon Guggenheim Museum of Contemporary Art. The deconstructivist museum building, made of curved titanium-zinc sheets, has become one of the most spectacular buildings in the world.
The central exposition of the museum's collection is a series of steel sculptures "The Essence of Time", the work of the American sculptor Richard Serra. Contemporary art is presented both in traditional ways: paintings and sculptures, as well as installations, abstractions and electronic works. The museum's symbols are the 13-meter figure "Puppy" in front of the entrance, the work of Jeff Koons, and the large sculpture of the spider "Maman" by Louise Bourgeois. Yves Klein fountains with evening illumination are installed along the perimeter of the building.
