The area originated in the 19th century outside the city walls, when the need for spatial growth in Barcelona, which suffered from overpopulation and frequent epidemics, became apparent. Engineer Ildefons Serda is implementing his urbanization plan for the city. It is the Cerda plan that becomes the ideal playground for the architects of Barcelona. The masterpieces of Gaudi and his colleagues start a chain reaction - the cream of society, not wanting to lag behind each other, gradually turns the streets and quarters of the city into an open-air architectural museum.
