The construction of the German Pavilion was timed to coincide with the 1929 World's Fair, held on
Montjuic. The Art Nouveau pavilion was designed as a symbol of the Weimar Republic by German architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe.
The architect used in the construction of non-standard, and at first glance, incompatible materials: marble, onyx, limestone, glass and metal.
Upon completion of the World Exhibition, the pavilion was dismantled and transported to Germany. Later, in 1983, the Barcelona authorities accepted a project to restore it according to the author's original plans and photographs. Now the building of the pavilion houses a museum.
