National Art Museum of Catalonia

MNAC, Museo Nacional de Arte de Catalunya, National Art Museum of Catalonia
Spain, Barcelona
The National Museum of Art of Catalonia is a museum in Barcelona, created in 1990 as a result of the merger of the collections of the Museum of Modern Art and the Museum of Art of Catalonia. The museum is a consortium of the city of Barcelona and the Ministry of Culture of Catalonia.

The museum's collection of romances is considered one of the most complete in the world. The core of the museum's Gothic collection is Catalan easel painting and sculpture. The art of the Baroque and Renaissance is presented more modestly due to the lesser significance of Catalonia at that time, but nevertheless, the museum has significant works of art of the 16th-18th centuries and not only Catalan. The art nouveau collection brings together famous works of Catalan art of the 19th and first half of the 20th centuries.

The museum has a numismatic and engraving departments, as well as a universal and art library. In addition to exhibition activities in permanent and changing exhibitions, the museum is engaged in restoration and conservation work.

The museum building itself is already an architectural masterpiece. We came here twice - the first time while walking along the Montjuic mountain and the second time for the fountain show. During the day, you can take wine with you, sit on the steps ...and let the whole world wait! Here you can hear live Spanish guitar and a beautiful view of the city. Well, when it gets dark, do not be lazy, come up here again - a completely different panorama will appear before you - the night city. The museum can be visited free of charge on Saturdays.
