house with thorns

Casa Terrades, Casa de les Punxes
Spain, Barcelona
The studded house was built by the architect Josep Puig i Cadafalch between 1903 and 1905, commissioned by the three Terrades sisters. The building got its name because of the six conical towers with spiers that adorn its roof. The house faces three streets simultaneously: Brook, Rosello and Avenue Diagonal. The most famous is the panel overlooking Rosello Street, which depicts St. George. In 2003, the house was reconstructed and sold to a private buyer. Currently, the House with Spikes is privately owned and not visited, the building can only be viewed from the outside.

Casa Terrades (also called "House with Thorns"), architect Josep Puig i Cadafalch. Address: Avinguda Diagonal 416-420 completed 1905 The building has six facades and occupies an entire block. Such a "hybrid of the Flemish town hall and the pseudo medieval castle of Ludwig the Mad", as the author of books about Barcelona, Robert Hughes, aptly put it. Maybe not the best work of Puig i Cadafalch, but certainly the most famous.
