House Calvet

Casa Calvet
Spain, Barcelona
Casa Calvet is a private residential building built in 1898-1900 in Barcelona by the architect Antoni Gaudí, commissioned by the widow of the textile manufacturer Pere Martir Calveta y Carbonel.

House Calvet is the most traditional creation of Gaudi, but it was for him, and not for other masterpieces of the master, that in 1900 the architect was awarded the Barcelona Municipal Prize for the best building of the year.

Unlike previous works, when creating the Calvet House (Casa Calvet), Gaudi avoids any Gothic or medieval elements and uses the baroque decor that he had already tested in the design of the facade of the Nativity of the Sagrada Familia. As in all other creations of the master, every little thing is important in the decoration of the house. An example of such "little things" can be knockers on the front doors, hitting the image of a bug : ) Now this is a residential building, so you won't be able to look at the interiors.
