Casa Batlló

House of Batlló, Batlló, Casa Batlló, House of Bones
Spain, Barcelona
Casa Batlló is a residential building built in 1877 for the textile magnate Josep Batlló y Casanovas and remodeled by architect Antoni Gaudí between 1904 and 1906.

The most remarkable feature of Casa Batlló is the almost complete absence of straight lines in its design. The wavy outlines appear both in the decorative details of the façade, carved from hewn stone quarried on Barcelona's Montjuic hill, and in the interior design.

Casa Batllo is located next to the House of Amalle and the House of Lleo Morera, and together with them is part of the "Quarter of Discord", so named because of the stylistic heterogeneity of the modernist buildings that form it.

Functionally, it is the same residential building with apartments for rent and apartments for homeowners as Casa Mila, only smaller. The patio, stairs, roof are also open for tourists, but instead of an ordinary apartment, there are two-level apartments of the homeowners. But if the first house is strict, reminiscent of a castle, then the second is just a flight of fancy, the fairy-tale palace of the Little Mermaid, a precious box! Here, the audio guide is quite adequate, and with the function of augmented reality in the main rooms (it looks like a smartphone and shows the view of rooms with furniture, besides, it uses special effects!!! ).

Casa Pia Batllo, address: Rambla de Catalunya, 17. Architect Josep Vilasek i Casanovas. The Casa Pia Batllo building is interesting not so much in itself, but as an early example of the development of the sloping corners of the Eixample district. By the way, Vilasek once worked a lot with Luis Domè nech y Montaner, a representative of the first generation of Catalan modernists.

I ordered a ticket from home, via the Internet. Site http://www. casabatllo. es/ Price per visit + audio guide – 21.50 euros (value 2014) For long, elongated columns, which are placed near the window on the second floor and resemble large tibia, the building was dubbed the "House of Bones". Architect Antoni Gaudí. The most remarkable feature of Casa Batlló is the almost complete absence of straight lines in its design. Gaudí avoided straight lines in principle, believing that a straight line is a product of man, and a circle is a product of God.

Gaudí 's architecture cannot but amaze, unusual shapes, bizarre buildings...and here the Casa Batllo impresses with the fact that it is from a fairy-tale world. It's hard to believe that it was once inhabited. In general, having seen such a building once, then you will never forget it. This is what distinguishes Baoselona - many amazing works of architecture. Casa Batlló is close to Casa Mila, so you can visit both of Antonio Gaudí 's creations at once. Entrance with an audio guide costs about 20 euros, available in Russian.

I had very little time to explore Barcelona. So the cruise ordered (5-6 hours), and there was a lot to see (Sagrada, Plaza Catalunya, there are a lot of lists in Barcelona), so there was only an external inspection. The interiors are left for the future...But Casa Batlló is impressive. Is this how it should be seen?

We have reviewed a lot of Gaudi, but Batllo is probably the most interesting of his residential buildings. He invented everything here, including furniture, handles, lamps, ceramic elements. Next to it are two more houses that were built by Gaudi, Amalie and Morera. And none of them are exactly alike.
