Reef Shaab Nakari
Shaab Nakar Reef
Egypt, Marsa Alam
A detached reef located 1.5 km from the shore opposite Marsa Nakari Bay, 12 km south of Marsa Alam. This is an elongated barrier reef about 250 m long and up to 80 m wide. There is a beautiful coral garden on the western slope: powerful blocks of hard corals, mainly porites, rise from a depth of 18-20 m. On the northwestern corner of the reef there are three almost adjacent seamounts to each other, between them and the main reef - winding passages. In the southwestern part, another seamount adjoins the reef mass, and there is a cave in the reef wall. The entrance to it is at a depth of 6 m, there are numerous holes in the ceiling of the cave. The current is sometimes almost absent, more often moderate, less often strong, from north to south.
