Temple of Hatshepsut

Mortuary Temple of Hatshepsut
Egypt, Luxor
The Temple of Hatshepsut is located within the Deir el-Bahri Historic Site in the eastern Valley of the Kings. It was built in the 15th century BC as a mortuary temple for Queen Hatshepsut, widow of Thutmose II.

The temple is carved into the rock, three steps in the form of terraces lead to it, on which trees and ponds were once located. The wall of the lower step is decorated with falcons. The reliefs of the second level tell about the life of Hatshepsut. The upper tier was intended for rituals. The sculptures of the temple represent the queen in the images of the pharaoh, Osiris and the sphinx.

We traveled with a child in December. Amazing. Can't describe in words. We rode a steam locomotive to the ticket office; ))) wildly interesting, the child is delighted; ))) everything is like in history books. We had an excellent guide. Tired, though in the end, but I liked it. We took a tour on the redseareisen website. In the hotel, the price is generally incomprehensible, where do they get them from; ))). So don't trust the guides at the hotel. And wear comfortable shoes; ))

A beautiful and majestic building, an opportunity to touch the ancient history of Egypt. On the stairs of the temple you can take interesting pictures. On the way to the temple there are shops with souvenirs and water. Life hack: if you ask the guide who accompanies you to buy water, then a bottle of water will come out cheaper)

It is very, very unfortunate that it was destroyed in ancient Egypt. From the ticket office to the temple carries a train. There is an interesting story behind this temple! When the next king after Hatshepsut came to power, he ordered the destruction of everything connected with her. The restoration is excellent, many of the drawings on the walls have been preserved in the form they were. Unfortunately, he has a sad present, when tourists were shot in 1997.

After visiting the Karnak temple and lunch (buffet, included in the price of the tour), we went by our regular bus to the temple of Queen Hatshepsut. We rode a train from the bus to the temple itself)) Excellent presentation of material from our guide Ahmed, aka Ramses the 12th)), examined the frescoes (genuine colors, without restoration), learned to read the symbols and what they mean. In general, such majestic buildings cannot but touch the soul. From the trip there are many cool pictures and memories.

The temple even from a distance looks like a wonder of the world, carved into a rock of golden sandy color! Long steps-ramps, many statues of the queen herself survived, you can see her cold look and stern face. Inside, there are some corridors with statues, apparently intended for various rituals of that time. The queen on the statues is depicted in three images - the pharaoh, Osiris and the sphinx (or what is left of them) The funeral temple began to be built during the lifetime of the first female pharaoh Hatshepsut, right in the rock.

The temple is not big, but outwardly impressive. In principle, all that needs to be seen is outside (inside, a small crypt, we did not go in). I was glad to see everything with my own eyes, as it was an innovation both in history and in architecture of that time. A visit to the temple-tomb is included in the excursion to Luxor and the Valley of the Kings. Dress so as not to burn in the sun (cover your head, shoulders and arms), do not forget your glasses and take plenty of water with you. Very hot and sunny!.
