Pharaoh Village Theme Park
Pharaonic Village
Egypt, Cairo
The Pharaonic Village of Dr. Ragab on Jacob's Island in Cairo is a theme park where you can take a trip to Ancient Egypt. Visitors are invited to ride a motorized barge through the network of canals or wander among the many exhibits, some of which are active.
Dr. Ragab began the process of transforming Yacob Island into a reconstruction of ancient Egypt by planting 5,000 trees of various kinds to separate the island from present-day Cairo. He searched all over the world for plants, seeds, and even birds that once lived in ancient Egypt, but have now disappeared.
The village is still growing, with new projects and exhibitions appearing regularly. There are a total of ten museums here, of which four date back to the pharaonic era, while the rest tell about various periods of Egyptian history, including Coptic Christianity and Islam. Visitors can also see the reconstruction of an Egyptian white stone temple with a sacred lake, the main decoration of the park, as well as the restored houses of craftsmen and farmers, aristocratic villas, a market, the Pharaoh's Palace and even a military camp. Here you can learn more about various crafts and industries, including pottery and sculpture, textile making and shipbuilding, as well as the everyday activities of ancient people.
One of the central exhibits is a recently completed replica of Tutankhamen's tomb with copies of items that were in it at the time of its discovery. Using notes and original photographs by famed archaeologist and Egyptologist Howard Carter, Dr. Ragab and his team recreated the entire tomb using the same building techniques that were used in ancient times.
