Necropolis Dahshur
Necropolis of Dashur, Dahshur Necropolis
Egypt, Cairo
Dahshur is a necropolis of the Egyptian pharaohs of the Ancient and Middle Kingdoms, located in the desert 26 km south of Cairo, on the west bank of the Nile. This is the southernmost "pyramid field" in the vicinity of ancient Memphis; its area is 3 x 1.5 km. On the rocky plateau of Dahshur, pyramids of the IV, XII and XIII dynasties were found. The Bent Pyramid and the Pink Pyramid of Pharaoh Snefru (XXVI century BC) are better preserved than others. The pyramids of Amenemhet II and Senusret III are almost completely destroyed, but the tombs of royal relatives attached to them are of great archaeological interest, from which precious treasures were recovered. The "Dark Pyramid" of Amenemhat III is also popular among tourists, despite its depressing condition.
