The Museum of Islamic Art is considered one of the greatest in the world. Its collection includes more than 100 thousand exhibits, about 2500 of which are exhibited in 25 halls.
The collection contains mainly Egyptian art, but you can also see exhibits brought from other parts of the Islamic world. They illustrate all periods of the development of Islamic art - from the Umayyads to the Abbasids, Fatimids, Ayyubids and Mamluks. There are examples of woodwork (including coffered ceilings and exquisite mashrabiya windows), stucco, intarsia, ceramics, glass, metal, carved marble fountains, textiles and carpets, weapons from the Mamluk era, as well as beautifully illuminated manuscripts and decorated Korans. owned by King Farouk.
