Al-Hakim Mosque is located on
Al-Muiz Street near the northern gate of Bab al-Futuh. It was built at the beginning of the 11th century and named after the caliph who ruled at that time. This is a fine example of early Islamic architecture: a huge memorial entrance, white marble floor, beautiful minarets. At different times, the building of the mosque housed a prison, a factory, a stable, and in 1986 it was restored and now returned to its historical purpose.
